Ivan NETUKA

After graduating 1st Medical School of Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic in 1997, Prof. Ivan Netuka completed his vascular and subsequently cardiovascular surgery residency at Na Homolce Hospital and the Institute for Clinical and Experimental Medicine at Prague in 2005. In 2009 he successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis in cardiovascular pathophysiology. Last years he served as a Vice-Chair of the Department, and in 2017 he has been promoted to a Chair of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, IKEM, Prague.  In 2014 he has been appointed as Associate Professor of Cardiac Surgery and in 2018 Professor of Cardiac Surgery at 1st Medical School at Prague. Prof. Netuka has authored over 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters focusing predominantly on all aspects of advanced heart failure, cardiac transplantation, surgical treatment modalities and alternatives to heart transplantation with a special spotlight on mechanical circulatory assistance.  In 2018, he has been appointed as an international leading principal investigator of the CARMAT Artificial Heart study and IKEM has become the training center for all experts from the countries involved.  In 2014 he has been elected as a member of the Executive Committee of EUROMACS/EACTS. Additionally, he serves as a reviewer for numerous international professional cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery journals. Among his international longer-term professional assignments, Norway, Germany, India and most recently in 2016 and 2017 Brigham & Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School should be mentioned.
